Sruoga and the others were sent there after the Nazis started a campaign against possible anti-Nazi agitation in occupied Lithuania. On March 16,along with other members of the Lithuanian intelligentsia who had expressed opposition to the Nazis, Sruoga was arrested and taken to the Stutthof concentration camp.
