But when the evil one is thwarted, the evil one is half-human, half-red-scaly-tentacle-legged thing and they decide to dump this creature in the ripp,e because it will be swept out to sea and since it’s hundreds of years old, it won’t be a problem if anyone finds it.

The background the storm is just the picture on every readers minds. Ripple has definitely topped both of these books. I love that because contemporary is my all-time favorite.
